Obiettivi formativi

The teaching through specialized modules and practical experience, contributes  to acquire knowledge on exotic species and their behavior and to acquire knowledge on the basic principles and techniques of their management in a controlled environment such as zoological gardens, in order to develop specific skills and understand how management itself can be influenced or influence the behavior of animals. The student will be able to acquire useful knowledge to understand what is the animal welfare and what tools and actions are necessary to guarantee it. The student can learnt the negative  human impact on the environment and on all the species,  so he can understand the meaning of the conservation, determine its objectives and identify the fields of study to plan, carry out research and develop a project for the conservation of the species. During the course, basic knowledge will also be provided to use a suitable language and evaluate the tools and methods of education in relation to specific contexts and targets.

knowledge and capacity of understanding

At the end of the course, the student must prove to have acquired the ability to understand the basic techniques for the animal welfare assessment in relation to behavior and to have acquired the principles of activities that influence the management of the different species in a controlled environment. The student must also demonstrate that he understood the importance of research in the conservation of species- At the end of the teaching, the student must the ability to re-elaborate the contents learned to communicate them correctly according to the different targets and objectives.

ability to apply knowledge and understanding

The student should have acquired the capacity to carry out the ability to evaluate the animal welfare and the ability to analyze the behavioral data collected necessary for plan a behavioral study. He will also must demonstrate the ability to schedule an animal management program and the ability to plan and developan educational process

autonomy of opinion

The autonomy of judgment will be enhanced by stimulating the student during the course to intervene with personal critical assessments: the student will be able to understand and critically discuss approaches to the management and conservation of animal populations.

communicative skills

The structure of the course should allow the student to know how to communicate his specific knowledge in a clear and in a deep way and to know how to plan an educational process using specific methodologies and a scientific language structured to be understood by different targets.

abilty to learning

the student must be able to understand and elaborate the concepts and the data present in scientific articles relating to the topics presented in the teaching and be able to analyze, apply and divulge them appropriately by citing the acquired concepts.

Voto espresso in trentesimi

Note:

At the end of some lessons, questions on the topics covered may be proposed, in order to have a summary framework useful for a better understanding of the contents, self-assessment and preparation of the final oral exam. The exam consists in the presentation of a project (or an enrichment project, or a training project, or a research and conservation project, or an educational and dissemination project), first sent in written form, then presented orally in power point presentation or similar; the requested projects will be evaluated in the total parts, from the analysis of the key points for their planning (explained during lessons), bibliographic research, feasibility, originality and in-depth analysis of the individual points and finally the method of presentation of the project. Students will be divided into groups in order to evaluate their ability to work in a group and to interact with colleagues; the members of the single groups will be evaluated not individually, but considering the work done by the group.

The score is expressed in 30th

Notes: students are required to register at the examination  following the procedure of the Atheneum. In case of problems and difficulties students are invited to contact the professor.
